A Journey of 1000 miles Begins With A Single Step Class!
Hello Urban Active Fit Community! My name is Roschelle Ogbuji and I am so excited to share my Fat to Fit Journey with you. I have to start off sharing that I was 367lbs when I first step foot into an Urban Active Club and they made me feel right at home. I had been to many workout places before that really didn’t take an obese women in the free weights area seriously. I started my journey of fitness by taking classes because I loved the group dynamics and music and believe it or not my favorite class was step class. I felt so good to be able to keep on beat and step that it really jump started my journey. I am going to share a lot of my past experiences and where I am now in this lifetime commitment to life a Fit2bFabulous life!!! Stay tune for my blog on “Stop the Madness!” Getting off the Emotional Eaters Diet.
Can’t wait to hear you!
That’s a fantastic story and inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Roschelle, you are well on your way to being fit for a lifetime! I have adapete the same theory!I was just wondering if you are working with Personal trainer at UA?
I look pretty good for my age, 46. Weigh 119. I like being about 7 pounds less with NO muffin top. My issues are due to some chronic pain issues. Although I may not look like it, I have chronic pain in my feet and am hyperextensive. This means that I have difficulty doing most cardio activities that involve pounding on your feet. I also can not do very heavy weight without getting muscle knots and minor tears. This limits my workouts. I do mostly circuit training and weight training which is fine but would like to be more consistent and have a bit of versatility.
So I just signed up for this program. Wish me luck!
Erika set goals, write them down, share them here, report back here often and stay focused!
Back on August 1, 2011 I made the decision to make some life changes. Unfortunately for me I felt like I was still a young man in his twenties. Well the truth be told I am 46. At the time of my life changing decision I weighed in at 280 pounds. WTF? How did that happen. Well I knew the truth; just couldn’t believe it actually happened. Thank goodness I am 6’2″. Considering I was in the best shape of my adult life just 11 years earlier. What had me the most concerned was the getting back into the swing of things. Considering I just came back from a broken ankle first of March. But I was Determined, Dedicated and Driven. I had a goal to lose 30 pounds by November 1st. I achieved that goal. I could have lost more but did not eliminate all the bad habits prior to going on an ALL inclusive vacation with friends to Cancun. Since returning from vacation in the first of November I have lost only 5 more pounds. Damn Holiday’s. Ok so it’s not the fault of the holidays as much as I use it as an excuse.
) My goal is to weigh 210 by May 1, 2012. I am limited to the amount of weight lifting I can do thanks to a bad rotator cuff. But I am going to do my best to work through the pain of a bad shoulder and ankles. One of the best sources I use for personal accountability is http://www.MyFitnessPal.com. There is also a FREE app for this. It allows me to track my calorie intake and my accomplishments. I track EVERYTHING. Every bit of food or drink I put into my mouth and every bit of exercise I do. I have my program set to losing 2 pounds per week. Only because they will not allow you to manipulate to a 3 pound per week weight loss. One other awesome source I use for motivation is http://www.Transformation.com (this is Bill Phillip’s newest venture) and I just finished reading BFL (Body For Life) for the third time. I have to say I learned more from the third read than I did the first two reads. Only because my mindset was completely different. And that is where it all begins. You have to start with your mindset. Thanks for the read and have one awesome workout today.
Day 1 February 7, 2012
This is my fitness story.
I have had a passion for fitness all my life. It started out with Karate lessons and progressed to learning some of the basics from my buddies in the weight room after school. Then, when college began, I started to do my own research on exercise and nutrition. After a few years of training with this new knowledge I really started to see results. However, my shoulders, which had always given me some trouble started to bother me. A visit to a specialist revealed that I had “huge” bone spurs on each of my acromion bones. Surgery was the only pathway to relief.
Through the course of my surgeries and rehab I lost 20lb of the muscle I had built over the years. However, I was determined to make a comeback. At first I was too weak to use the smallest dumbells at the gym so I stayed at home working with one pound dumbells. Eventually, I worked up to five pounders and I when my physical therapist gave me the green light I was back in the gym. It has been just over a year since my last (left) was operated on. Although I am by no means the strongest or most fit person at my local Urban Active, I make sure that each day I put in my 100%. I have gained back seven pounds of my lost muscle and I don’t plan o stopping till I reach my goals.
Don’t let setbacks put you down. Surround yourself with people who will help you reach your goals. Make small goals at first if you have to. Find ways to motivate yourself. Stay focused and don’t give up. With faith, determination, and discipline YOU CAN reach your goals.

I don’t have a story yet…I am just beginning this journey to truly stick to my guns…. I have vowed to lose 50 pounds at age 50 ….I am also involved with Shakeology and I do participate by using the Beach Body DVD workouts as well….I enjoy both working out in a private setting as well as using equipment at my local UA facility….I need to push myself to make time to exercise on a daily basis and that’s my largest hang up…I work FT and many days I tell myself that I am too tired – I know it’s like any other habit – once I start and get hooked – it will be easy.
I wish you all the best in fitness journey.

I want to lose weight and get back in shape
I joined on november 6, 3 months later i have lost 20 lbs and went down 2 pant sizes. I feel so much better. I work out 5 days a week. I have a personal trainer 2 times a week for the past 6 weeks. I never thought i could do this. It is so amazing to know it is possible.
Took my 1st step yesterday an joined. Worked out some, bout a hour or so. I’m trying to change my life the build self confidence, and also building a better physique.
Get Up And Move!
This is my story.
My name is Laura. I am a student who is artsy but yet as clumsy as a box of rocks. I weigh about 145lbs. now. I want to feel more fit and look more like it too. To be honest I don’t think I could of done all of this without my boyfriend. He wants me to feel happy about myself and helps me lose weight. I have not lost much so far but my legs have gotten firmer and look more toned. I have just started the gym again.
I have 2 goals in mind:
Run 10k in the flying pig (did the 5k last year)
Feel fit enough to put myself in front of the camera and people.
I believe I can do this if I try and I have not only my boyfriend but friends on the way to help me every step. I feel at home there a little and I see the same faces every day so it makes me feel better to run or smile by them.
I want to weigh 130lbs at some time of next year. Hope I can do this
-Laura
I am so excited to be a part of this motivated world! I adore my time at the gym for many reasons. 1: I enjoy having that time to myself and just unwind. 2: It’s motivating ALWAYS to see other people busting their butts. While #1 is important, it’s #2 that gets me a great workout on days I’m not feeling very self-motivated. So, thanks to all of YOU for working so hard–you keep me inspired! I have about 20 pounds I really want to lose. What’s exciting is that I’m losing this weight for ME. Not for a wedding, swimsuit, or blah blah blah. Just because I know I will feel better, more confident, and that all those other reasons I could lose weight will just be the fun results. So, here’s to us for accomplishing our goals. Not just starting them.
Ready to make a change.
Im Melissa and my story is that I have had chronic back pain for the last 5 years. I was told that if I make my core strong I can control my pain. I started water therapy which helped alot, nowi have to get out of the water and onto floor workouts. I joined UA a few weeks ago and really wanted a trainner but cant afford it. I was kinda made to feel like that if I dont have a trainner that I wouldnt be able to get my body how Iwant it. I workout good but dont feel like im getting the full benifits of the club because i dont know anyone there and really not sure what all i should be doing. I only need to loose about 10lbs but need to get my body strong. Does anyone has any advice for me?
I am a current member of Urban Active, I go everyday with my husband and son, we love it! It kicks my butt everyday!
This gym kicks my butt everyday and I love it!!!
I8 days ago I began a new diet. It has gone well so far, although, I have had two cheat days!! I dont feel great about those days, but I have lost 8 pounds this far. My total goal is 50 pounds. I am joining this challenge because the active portion of my lifestyle change is where I struggle. I HATE to work out. I wish I could learn to love it like some people do, but so far, I have not found where that love for the gym is. I need motivation so I though that joining this challenge would be a great place to start. Ive downloaded the gym’s class schedule into my iphone so that every time I go into icalendar, I see what classes are on that day. This will be an extra reminder for me to maybe go and be active. I enjoy the classes more than just boring cardio. So here I go and wish me luck!
I am excited to start…it is my first time at becoming more healthy. I have high goals but I know over time I will reach them. I want to improve myself inside and out. I have been lucky with never being over weight at all but feel I can improve and become more lean and muscular.

Hello my Urban Active Club. I’m currently a member at the Legacy Village location in Cleveland, Ohio. I worked out today and it was awesome!
I’m looking to connect will all club members and especially those who are 40 and beyond,
Today is the day I am cleaning up my life. I am heading back into the gym to get rid of stress I do not need and to shed these unwanted pounds I have let myself put on. I am getting reading to head to the gym now and if I have some energy I will tell you how I feel when I get back! Wish me luck
I know that times are hard for everyone, but I have been lied to consistantly by trainers working here at “URBAN ACTIVE” please to all woman don’t waste your time or your money. This is my experience with Urban Active on Edge O Lake in Nashville. It’s really not a good feeling to be passed around as if your just a check.Day 1 Caleb sit in that officer and sold me a dream.PROMISED all these things that I have yet to see.Day 2, I met my trainer JIM the minister who has written a book about fitness, but what good is that when your not a man of your word.Just because your a minister means what? Some time people need extra motivation and I am one to admit that I do,but I really hate for people to lie to me.All you have to do is say what you mean.Caleb said give him 3 days a week and I would see a change. Well, I have only had 1 full week of a month with a trainer.I have been passed around and they wonder why I have a bad feeling about these so called sorry trainers. How will they know if anything has changed when they haven’t weighed me or measured me. Then I was also told that the trainer would go over what foods are good for me to eat,but when I asked my trainer now he said” he’s not a doctor and he can’t tell me that. The first two meetings with this trainer I did sweat but the last one I didn’t sweat as much and he was ready to go(it was Friday)The trainer’s are nice to look at (eye candy) but they can just have them walk around the gym every now and then when the females are working out.I’m just saying females know your people and think about it really hard because what ur paying them to do you can do it yourself. It’s really not worth it.
I am getting to the point that I don’t even feel like going to the gym any more.Caleb moved to Rivergate and Jimmy moved to Hermatige ladies don’t believe a word that these two men tell you, they are 100% liers. Save your money and do something nice for yourself. Paying for a trainer is just a expensive piece of eye candy.SAVE YOUR MONEY, get the membership to the gym it’s cheaper and you can look for free.
OK, I would like to say hello to everyone.I know my first e-mail was a bunch of complaints but i am really unhappy and now I have to go to the doctor just to get a letter so they’ll STOP taking money out of my account.I blame myself because I should have listened to my heart.I knew it was to good to be true.Have a meeting with my (so-called) trainer yesterday and he actually wanted to get started early. We did some different things which was good.I blame myself for all this, because i got comfortable and gained all this extra weight.Craig did a good job,and somethimes I am so frustrated with him because of the way the other two did me.which is not good for him. he is really patient (REALLY) I have only lost 6 pounds and I am really trying everything.I only eat chicken anyways, but it seems as if nothing is working for me right.I watch my calorie intake.I drink mostly water and when I have to have something esle I drink a diet Mt. Dew. strawberries, apples, and green vegetables.I try to eat every two hours but because I work third shift that’s a little hard.I do have a cup of coffee when I wake up.I know it’s not good but I don’t be hungry half the times so I might go awhile without eatting. If anyone have any good idea’s please share them with me.I am willing to try this on my own because I did it once and know I can do it again.
ok people, today May the 8th I went to the gym. “URBAN ACTIVE” in Nashville on Edge Of Lake Drive. The one positive thing about this gym is that they have a room for females only. the bad thing is they have two treadmills and two elliptical machines some free weights and nasty mats and etc.Well I walked in a little after 8:20 and sat their waiting patiently for these four women to do their excercise and then move on. Needless to say is that I didn’t get a chance to do anything.WHY YOU ASK? because these four woman took up so much time and they weren’t just on the machine’s.They were talking and walking around and getting on other things and then would run back to the machine when I looked up.So, I thought I was doing the right thing by going to talk to someone but quickly found out that: it really doesn’t matter because nothing could be done. Why in the hell do you have a female working their and why couldn’t she come in and say something. but I was told the next time I could just ask them if I could use the machine. Are you freaking kidding me.I told him that I was trying to do the right then, but I don’t have a problem with saying anything the next go round. These females were talking so loud.I had my headphones on and my music turned up and could still hear their conversation VERY clearly. All those trainers and their scared to say something topeople. No wonder this gym has gone way down, and the one with the most muscle’s sit in a office looking out the glass door.If your that scared then why don’t you find something esle to do,and stop wasting people’s time and money.I do have a pretty good trainer(NOW) and that’s the ONLY reason why I am still their, and I told him that. thanks to AMBROIS the director.Other then that I’m warning everyone to save your money. The gym is a “dump”,constomer service skills are really, really, REALLY down in this buisness.I know your not to suppose to expect wrong to go wrong before it goes right but that’s all i can do when coming to this place, and when you want to file a conplaint they say all they can give you is a e-mail address for the corporate office and then they think her name is. Hw are you going to work at this place and NOT know who works over your boss just in case anything goes wrong. How is that possible? R E A L L Y. People don’t waste your time or money.
I need the motivation to stay committed today and for the rest of my life!
This is where it starts…Let’s Go!
