About This Challenge
Urban Active is committed to improving the fitness lifestyles within the communities where we operate. To prove we’re serious about getting results, we have launched The Get Active challenge. It is open to members and non-members who are ready to make the commitment to be fit and share their personal stories to help motivate others. Working together, we can inspire more of our neighbors to live healthy, happy, fit and fulfilling lives! Whether you choose to workout with us in one of our clubs or at home, the most important thing is that you WORK OUT!
Recently, Men’s Health Magazine shined the national spotlight on America’s Most Sedentary Cities. Our corporate hometown of Lexington, Kentucky was named THE most sedentary city in America. Included on the infamous list were many of the other communities that we call home from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Tennessee.
So we have decided to do something about this… We want to show the world that together we can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in the communities that our fitness clubs call home.
The Get Active Challenge is open to members and non-members. To participate you begin by registering to take the challenge right here. What you choose to do for your work out and as part of your challenge, is really up to you. We all have different goals and objectives. But what we do ask is that if you take the challenge, we also hope you will be willing to post regularly to share with others the progress you are making (or when you need a heaping helping of motivation from others!).
Everyone is encouraged and eligible to be part of this movement. We hope many of you will be willing to share details of your personal fitness journey and why YOU are ready to make the commitment to achieve your personal fitness goals. Follow the Challenger Blogs to see be inspired by our online community, or create your profile to share your own journey. Your story will serve as motivation for others to achieve great results and improve their fitness and lead to a healthier lifestyle. You will also earn points for your posts, which could just earn you some extra help.
Earning points will not only receive public attention, but you will also earn some Urban perks like complimentary additional training services and membership upgrades. The more you workout and share, the more you could earn in perks!. This will be an ongoing challenge kicking off in full in January 2012 in every city where Urban Active operates a local club. There will be winners selected from the active challengers and we will be posting more details of those requirements soon.

So excited for this new project. I think this is a great way to get america strong.
I agree with Jordan! I was one of America’s obese in one of the fattest cities, Columbus, Ohio for so long. Life is too short to waste by not getting active and reducing the health risks. We deserve to be healthy. It is a shame that all health insurance plans do not cover fitness/wellness type programs and personal fitness. It would reduce premiums and health care cost if they look more to prevention or offering people incentives to be healthy!
Great idea! I’d love to join in. I have a paper that I’ve been revising ferevor that I’d like to submit by Dec 4 and another that I’d like drafted and out to friends for pre-review . Let’s do it!
Last year I lost 20 pounds by eating right and starting to run (inspired by some college students who were training for a half marathon). Urban Active gave me the extra little incentive and accountability to work out regularly. The classes and the track keep me excited about working out and continuing to shape and tone my body so I can continue to work for many years to come.
So impressed with Urban Active (Pittsburgh) last night! Can’t wait to see the results from the challenge!
I like this–I am challenging mylesf to actually have “school time” with my 4 yr old at home while older sis is at school, but I need to apply to me too. Good Luck!! Have fun at the ZOO.
Gearing up for a fun filled hour with JB tomorrow! BRING it on!!!
